Long Way Down by Krista & Becca Ritchie

“He never gives up on me, even when I disappear at night. Even when I wane like the setting sun. His love is unyielding and exists to cloak me through heartache, through misery, through laughter and pain. I love him in every moment. In every smile. In every frown. And I will love him after every long way down.”- Daisy, Long Way Down

ask

I don’t know where to even begin with writing this review. I’ve gone past the point of emotional; I’m inconsolable. This series has down right ruined me, but this book in particular just took a piece of me and it’s okay if I never get it back. I’M LEGIT CRYING AS I WRITE THIS REVIEW BECAUSE THAT’S HOW BEAUTIFUL THIS BOOK WAS! Bear with me as I try to form coherent sentences for this review.

Long Way Down is the story of Ryke Meadows and Daisy Calloway, two free-spirited souls who fearlessly live life on the edge. Despite their age difference, these two have never let anything hold back and have overcome every obstacle that have stood in their way. But they’re about face their biggest challenge yet; one that could make or break their relationship, one that may push them over the edge.

I honestly was not expecting this kind of heartache when I went into Long Way Down. I thought that Long Way Down would be like Hothouse Flower: fun-loving, wild, light, with only a few moments of sadness. Obviously, that was not the case. Long Way Down started off sweet and funny with Ryke and Daisy’s back and forth banter and teasing, but eventually things took more of a serious tone and these two find themselves facing a number of new obstacles as they take the next step in their relationship. I’m not going to go into details about what those obstacles are since they are major spoilers, but I will say it wasn’t easy watching Ryke and Daisy struggle the way they did. I was a mess while reading this and by 65%, I was so inconsolable that I had to stop reading and just cry all the tears before I could continue. Just when you think things were looking up for these two, they would get hit with something else and it would put them back to the beginning and they would have to start all over again. But despite all that, Ryke and Daisy continued to push forward and in the end, things worked out in their favor.

I have a new found love for Daisy and Ryke. I’ve always loved these two and how laid back their personalities are, but in Long Way Down, we see how certain situations can change people and these two undergo a great amount of change throughout this book. Daisy, the youngest Calloway sister who seriously deserves the world’s greatest hug, just blew me away and I am so proud of her and all she’s accomplished. SHE FOUND HER VOICE AND DEMANDED THAT SHE BE HEARD. Even though everyone had their doubts, she managed to do a number of amazing things throughout this book and I couldn’t be more happier for her. Ryke, the loud mouthed jerk who is actually the furthest thing from a jerk, undergoes quiet a bit of change as well. He faces a great loss in this book that puts him in a dark place and for the first time ever, the roles have switched and he is the one who needs a shoulder to lean on. Ryke turns to Loren during this time who helps to pick him back up and this inevitably strengthens their relationship as brothers. Daisy and Ryke’s story couldn’t end on a more happier note and no one deserved a happier ending than these two.

The ten year epilogue COMPLETELY GUTTED ME! I’m still not over it. IT WAS SO FREAKIN’ PRECIOUS, I HAVE NO WORDS. Long Way Down was absolute PERFECTION and the perfect ending to Daisy and Ryke’s story. I’m ready to start the final book in this series. I will probably be dead by the end of it, but this series is worth it.
