Synopsis via Goodreads: The first novel in a sexy new series featuring the hockey players of the Brooklyn Bruisers and the women who win their hearts—from the USA Today bestselling author of the Ivy Years series.

In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold…

Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast….

Rookie Move is the first installment in Sarina Bowen’s newest sports romance series, Brooklyn Bruisers, which is also the spin-off series of Bowen’s New Adult sports romance, The Ivy Years. I enjoyed The Ivy Years series very much and was excited to read more hockey romances by Bowen. Rookie Move did not disappoint and was one hell of a start to what could possibly be one of my new favorite series!

Georgia Worthington and Leo Trevi were once high school sweethearts who seemed to have everything going for them, that is until one tragic night that inevitably changes both their lives. Six years later, Georgia has worked her way up and is hoping to land the position as senior publicist for the Brooklyn Bruisers. But things become complicated when Leo joins the hockey team as their newest trade. Hoping to keep things professional, Georgia does her best to keep her distance from the new rookie. But when old feelings start to emerge, Georgia will realize that keeping it professional will not be as easy as she hoped.

I immediately knew that I was going to love Rookie Move as it is a second chance romance which is my ALL-TIME FAVORITE ROMANCE TROPE! I live for this trope because nothing is more satisfying to me as a reader than seeing two fated characters get a second shot at a happily ever after. I really liked how Bowen took her time with Leo and Georgia as they got reacquainted with one another and didn’t immediately rush back into a relationship. Georgia is hesitant to be with Leo again, not because she doesn’t want to get hurt, but rather she does not want to hurt him again. But Leo such a stand up guy and he patiently waits for Georgia until she is ready to take that next step again. The slow build-up of the romance made me emotional and I was rooting for these two to find their way back to each other! I’m already in love with some of the secondary characters, especially Becca who is Georgia’s coworker and roommate. She upbeat, sweet and a great friend to Georgia. I’m hoping she gets her own story. I kind of see her already having some chemistry with another secondary character and I’m curious to see where things would go with these two.

I loved Georgia right from the beginning. She independent, driven, career-oriented and doesn’t let anything keep her from going after her dreams. Despite being a victim of sexual assault, she never lets her past define her or hold her back. On the other hand, it did take me some time to warm up to Leo. We first met Leo in The Ivy Years series and he did some things that annoyed me, but after getting to know him more and seeing how much of an affect his break-up with Georgia had on him, I now understand why he did some of the things he did. Like I said before, he’s a stand-up guy who cares so much for Georgia and is willing to do whatever it takes to be with her again. Leo also has some swoon-worthiest one liners that will make you weak in the knees and fall over. Georgia fell for them, I fell for them  and every other romance reader out there is going to fall for them.

Rookie Move was everything I hoped for and more. It was a excellent start to a new series and I’m excited for the sequel, Hard Hitter, so I can get to know more about the mysterious Patrick O’Doul. It also helps that the female lead is also named Ari so there’s already that immediate connection since we have the same name. This series is going to make it onto my favorites list and I can’t wait to see for what’s to come!
