Synopsis via Goodreads: Vivian Bingley has big plans for her semester abroad in Spain

Along with her BFF, Maddie, Vivian hopes to indulge her inner Art History nerd by visiting the best museums in the world. She also wants to tackle more practical concerns—like a less than stellar GPA in her major, Economics—with the help of a Spanish tutor.

But falling for her studly Spanish tutor definitely isn’t one of them.

Madrileño Rafa Montoya is the stuff study abroad dreams are made of: super studly and super smart. He also happens to be super into Vivian. With his wicked dancing skills and his passion for the arts, he tempts her to throw caution to the wind and live out her wildest dreams.

Only problem? Maddie wants Rafa, too, and Vivian promised herself she’d never settle for second best again…not after a hookup-gone-awry last semester left her heartbroken. Is it best for Vivian to protect her heart at all costs? Or is letting Rafa in worth the risk?

This book is a New Adult contemporary romance, suitable for mature audiences.

I LOVE the cover for this book! So different from your typical New Adult covers!

Vivian Bingley has no idea what in stores for her when she starts her semester abroad in Spain. She hopes to raise her GPA. She hopes to kill it in her Economic classes. She hopes to explore the beautiful art that Madrid has to offer. What does she get instead? A flunking exam grade, an oh-so GORGEOUS tutor, and a best friend who is also crushing on said tutor. Studying abroad just got a whole lot more interesting for Vivian.

Spanish Lessons in the first installment in Peterson’s New Adult series, Study Abroad. While I enjoyed this book for the most part, the ANGST in this book was killer. Vivian was trying her best to keep everyone happy, but her actions ended up doing more damage than good. I think that is why I was so annoyed with Vivian throughout this book. Her back and forth seriously made my head hurt.

Despite my issues with Vivian, I did like reading about her struggle to find her passion. She struggles to answer the age old question: what do you want to do with the rest of your life? and I LOVED that she did eventually find it. I think her new career choice is the perfect match for her.

Side note, the romance starts out a bit fluffy. IT IS NOT THOUGH! Rafa + that dialogue = be still MY BEATING HEART!

♥ Vivian: I was pretty annoyed with Vivian throughout this whole book. Her reasoning for why she couldn’t be with Rafa just did not sit well with me because the whole conflict could’ve been avoided IF she had just admitted her feelings for Rafa in the first place! I get that she was trying not to hurt Maddie’s feelings, but I was still annoyed.

♥ Rafa: I LOVE Rafa!! Oh my god, he was such a SWEETHEART! I have to give it up to the guy, he sure had some patience with Vivian. He was totally understanding and never pushed Vivian, but rather he let her work out her own issues and come to him when she was ready. He also has a way with words ;). With that being said, I need my OWN Rafa <3!

So like I said before, my only issue was with Vivian and with some of the decisions she made. Honestly though, HOW can one say no to Rafa?!*swoon*

Overall, I enjoyed the first installment in this Peterson’s first New Adult series. The ending was HILARIOUS and a great set-up for the next book in the series. I can’t wait to read Maddie’s story! I definitely recommended checking out this new series!
