Avery Melrose has it all: the perfect grades, the perfect social life, the perfect boyfriend, the perfect plan…that is, until she walks in on her boyfriend, Grant, with another girl. In a blind rage, she takes a bat to Grant’s new truck, earning her 300 hours of community service and $15,000 in restitution.
After recently being released from prison, Seth Hunter is looking to turn his life around. But first, he has to complete three months of community service. Three months to figure out a plan to save his baby sister, Sara, from their stepfather, Davis, and take her away from a life filled with drug and abuse.
One night, Avery and Seth cross paths at a local bar. Things quickly go south and the two go their separate ways, both hoping to never see each other again. But faith has other plans as the two are thrown back together and they have to work together to overcome obstacles that will either bring them closer or tear them apart.

The title of this book was what caught my attention and the reason for why I requested this book. It just sounded like it would be a cute contemporary about a boy and girl “finding their way” and falling in love and I was in dire need of something fluffy and cute, FAST!

This novel is told in your typical new adult format with alternating chapters between both Avery and Seth’s POV. I wouldn’t say that there is “insta-love” in this book, but rather “insta-lust”. After hitting it off at the bar, things between the pair get hot and heavy pretty quickly, but the moment ends just as quickly as it began. This novel is filled with the typical tropes you would expect to find in any new adult novel, but I think it worked for this book and even though the ending was obvious, I still loved every minute of it.

I really, really liked Avery. Any girl who trashes her boyfriends truck after walking in on him with another girl is my type of gal.
I was really surprised with Avery’s character because I thought she would be the type of girl who expected everything to be handed to her on a silver platter, but she’s not. She actually works hard for everything that she has. She has this drive to be successful and she cares so deeply for everyone in her life. Even though she and her dad have a rocky relationship, at the end of the day she still loves him. Even with her relationship with Grant and the fact that he cheated, Avery found somewhere in heart to forgive him. She was strong and independent and I loved it.
I absolutely ADORE Seth. Seriously, he is book boyfriend material!
I’m a sucker for a good redemption story and Seth definitely turned his life around by the end of this book. Seth has had so much loss at a young age. So when he tries to protect his sister and instead lands himself behind bars, he becomes broken. He doesn’t really have anyone in his corner. Letting people in is hard, but somehow, he manages to find someway to trust Avery and these two made a great pair. They balanced each other as Avery is cautious while Seth tends to jump the gun. They both help one another grow as characters as Seth helps Avery find her voice to stand up to her father and Avery helps Seth realize that accepting help is not such a bad thing.

I did not have any major issues with this book. I was actually going to originally rate this book four stars, but the last line of this book had me a little teary-eyed and left me wanting more so I had to bump it up to five.
I can’t wait to read the second installment in this series! The synopsis for Whatever It Takes already has me hooked and I hope this one is just as good as the first!.
