“Love of sugar had to mean true love. It just had to.”- Bethany, Shadows
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: The Lux Series
Dawson Black is your just your average teenager, minus the part about him being an ALIEN of course. He’s all about having fun and kicking back. But that all changes the moment Bethany Williams walks into class. He is captivated by her beauty and wants to know everything about her. Even after multiple warnings from his brother, Daemon, Dawson can’t stay away from Bethany.
From the moment she laid eyes on him, Bethany knew that there was a connection between her and Dawson. Like Dawson, she too can’t seem to keep her distance, despite the multiple threats from his friends and brother. She wants every part of him, even the Luxen part.
Dawson knows the dangers of humans finding out his secret and now he must protect Bethany before he loses her, and himself.
Shadows is a Lux series novella about the blossoming relationship of Dawson and Bethany. This novella is told in third person, which kind of threw me off because the other Lux books are told from first person. Because of that, I thought that I would not have been able to connect to the story, but it actually ended up working really great because there are other events that occur without Dawson and Bethany being present that are crucial to the story, especially the ending.
I completely adore Dawson. He is so SWEET and AWESOME and just so different than Daemon. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE DAEMON, but Dawson’s personality was refreshing. His personality is a bit different in this book than in the other Lux books. You get to see him happy, before everything went downhill and it was great.
I really liked getting to know more about Bethany because her background is kind of a mystery throughout the other Lux books. She’s not a spunky as Katy, but she still stands up for herself. I thought that she would have back out of the relationship because everyone was trying to intimidate her, but she held her own.
Getting to see the relationship that caused all the trouble in the Lux series was great! I wasn’t even mad about the cliffhanger ending because I already know how their story ends. I love the Lux series and if you haven’t picked it up yet, do so NOW!
