Top Ten Tuesday (September 15, 2015): Books That Made You Ugly Cry

a little bit swirly (3)
Hello Fellow Book Lions!
Top Ten Tuesday is a bookish meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s topic is a freebie, which means you are free to pick your own topic! I’ve decided to go with the top ten books that made me ugly cry and just gave me all the feels…Let’s begin!

In no particular order, the following books left me feeling inconsolable…

  1. Bright Side by Kim Holden: I have talked about this book a number of times on my blog. Like I’ve said before, words can’t describe how much I LOVE THIS BOOK! I cried for three hours— THREE HOURS! I can’t even believe it. I love this book, I love the characters, I love the story, I love EVERYTHING!

2. Gus by Kim Holden: This is the second book in the Bright Side duology. This book continues right where Bright Side left off, but instead is told from Gus’ POV. The first half of this book was rough. Watching Gus trying to keep himself together was heartbreaking. The book ended on a happy note— THANK GOD!— but I still cried.

3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling: I didn’t cry when Sirius died, I didn’t cry when Dumbledore died, but I cried when Hedwig and Dobby died. Really?? How could you kill them?? I had to put down this book after Dobby died because that was rough. I also cried when Snape died. The Prince’s Tale is my favorite chapter in this book, everything came together in the chapter. I also cried when I finished the book because who wouldn’t? I didn’t want Harry Potter to end!

4. Dreamland by Sarah Dessen: This was the first book ever to make me cry. This book is the darkest of all of Dessen’s books as it deals with heavy themes, like drug and abuse. I just wanted to hug the main character, Caitlin, and tell her that everything was going to be ok. To this day, this is the only Sarah Dessen book that I have not re-read and I don’t think I ever will.

5. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas: I was not expecting to cry while reading this book, but the death of a character in this book just broke me down. Throughout the first part of this book, there were signs that this specific character was going to die, but still, when the moment came and the body was described, that visual image— no, just NO! I had to take a break and come back to this one.

6. Unforgiven by Rebecca Shea: This is the third and final book in the Unbreakable series. Our female protagonist, Lindsay, goes through a lot in this book. She suffers with an eating disorder, she is abusing drugs and alcohol, and she is depressed. My heart went out to the girl. I did not expect to cry while reading this book because I didn’t cry for the previous two books, but there was just something about Lindsay’s story that just struck a chord on my heartstrings.

7. Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma: There is a lot of stigma surrounding this book as it deals with such a controversial topic. I really thought I wouldn’t like this book and I thought I wouldn’t have finished it either, but I did and I LOVED it! That ending, I did not see it coming. I thought that things were going to work out for the most part, but that was not the case. But there was still some sense of hope at the ending, and that was beautiful.

8, When It Rains by Lisa De Jong: I stumbled across this read on my Scribd account and just decided to start reading it, not really knowing what it was about. BAM! Right during the first chapter, the water works have already started and I was a goner from them. This book follows our main character Kate, who was sexually assaulted and is now trying to move on from that horrible night. She struggles each day, until she meets a guy named Asher who tries to show her that it will not rain forever and that eventually the sun will come out. This was a great book and I’m glad I picked it up.

9. Unspeakable by Michelle K, Pickett: This was another book that I stumbled across on my Scribd account. I went into it not really knowing what it was about and I think for this book it’s best just to dive right in. This book follows our main character Willow who seems to have it together, but underneath her long-sleeved shirts and hoodies she hides a dark secret. The first line in this book is: “Breathe. No one will break me. I’m strong. Breathe. Just breathe.” Like how can you not already feel the feels. Willow is such a strong, determined character and I loved every minute of this book.

10. Love by Lacey Weatherford: Don’t let the cover fool you, THIS IS NOT A SAPPY LOVE STORY! Far from it people. This is the third book in the Crush series and it follows our main characters Dylan and Cami as they are now married and living a happy life. But wait, things start to happen and the couple has to go into hiding and the story escalates from there. This book has the most craziest plot twists I have ever read in my life. When you think that things are going great, you get hit with a plot twist. Cami suffered so much throughout this book, I just could not. Even up until the ending, I thought it was going to be smooth sailings, but no, there was one more twist waiting to be let out of the box and it was also the most heart breaking.

That completes my first Top Ten Tuesday! Have you guys read any of these books? Did they make you ugly cry? What books have made you ugly cry? Let me know down below.
